ARCHITECTURAL SHINGLES VS THREE TAB SHINGLES

When considering a full roof replacement, you have several options; The most common options are three tab shingles and architectural shingles. Three tab shingles are typically one fixed size, comprised of three individual tabs, 12 inches wide. There is an applied asphalt layer which contributes to the shingles ability to shed water. Three tab shingles are considerably lighter than architectural shingles, with architectural shingles typically weighing at least 50% more than architectural shingles. The additional weight and dimension of architectural shingles lend to better protection for your roofing system and typically result in better warranties associated with the shingle. Architectural shingles are more wind resistant, less prone to hail damage, and more resistant to fungal growth. When considering which shingle is right for your new roof installation, price is an obvious concern. With that being said, architectural shingles will cost more than a traditional three tab shingle. However, for the above mentioned reasons, we recommend architectural shingles to our clients if their budget can permit it. If you are in need of a new roof replacement, give us a call today and of our roofing specialists willl be happy to come out, and give you a no obligation consultation.
